When the kids go back to school, it can really free up your schedule, but it certainly won’t free up the roads! In the morning and afternoon, the roads are teeming with school buses, young pedestrians, and teen drivers.
Give buses the space and respect they need. Never ride too close behind a school bus. You should also never pass a bus on an undivided road. It is illegal in every state to pass a bus that is loading or unloading children.
Be aware of any school zone speed limits. School zone speed limits are typically 20 MPH. These are only applicable during school sessions. Always yield to pedestrians in school zones, and never block any crosswalks.
When dropping off your kids at school, use the drop off / pick up system in place. There is typically a route set up at every school; follow the route to avoid any confusion or accidents.
